As Tom Hardy’s Venom returns to the screens in the sequel to the 2018 hit film, he won’t just face Cletus Kasady and Carnage (Woody Harrelson) off against it. Last week we heard that Naomie Harris is in negotiations as Carnage’s paramour and killer girlfriend, Shriek, joining the cast of the Andy Serkis-directed sequel.
While Shriek is not one of the most prominent enemies of Spider-Man, her appearance in Venom 2 has a greater significance when it comes to laying the groundwork for the future of the Spider-Verse and a potential adaptation of the iconic battle of Spider-Man, Venom and Carnage, Maximum Carnage.
Frances Louise Barrison, who first introduced herself as Shriek alone, made her debut in Spider-Man Unlimited №1 (1993), which set off the Maximum Carnage plot going through the various Spider-Man books at the time. Designed by Tom DeFalco, Mike W. Barr, Terry Kavanagh, Ron Lim, Jerry Bingham, and Mark Bagley’s group, Shriek escaped at the beginning of the story from the Ravencroft mental institution along with Kasady and enthusiastically joined him on his bloodshed and chaos crusade.
Together with other heroes Cloak and Dagger, Iron Fist, Deathlok, Morbius, Black Cat and Captain America, their acts of violence brought them into conflict with Spider-Man and Venom, who called a brief truce.
